- Abstract
- During the cold war the Soviet Union used different methods to influence international politics. This was done by using disinformation and active measures. Today there is reason to believe that Russia continues to use similar methods as before, but due to the change in information technology new ways and techniques can be deployed. Theories to explain this phenomenon were developed during the cold war, thus there might be a need to revise these theories to better understand this phenomenon in a modern context. The result of the study shows that Russian narratives in international media can be understood as a part of Russia´s information campaigns that seeks to affect international politics. The study also shows that the information campaigns consist of two parallel process of political narratives, where voices from both the peace movement and the far-right movement sometimes enhance and are being enhances by the Russian international media narratives.
