- Abstract (Swedish)

(Less) - Abstract
- Over the last years has researchers on the artificial intelligence expressed their opinions about the lethal autonomous weapon systems, even if they do not even exist. They deem that there is a based motive to prohibit that kind of weapons. In the light of the criticism made against the lethal autonomous weapon systems, there is an interesting aspect to look into regulation on these weapons.
The purpose of this essay is to investigate via relevant treaties and doctrine how current regulation deal with the state’s decision to use the lethal autonomous weapon systems in a battlefield as well as if there is a need to regulate the lethal autonomous weapons even if they do not even exist.

The purpose of this essay is to investigate via relevant treaties and doctrine how current regulation deal with the state’s decision to use the lethal autonomous weapon systems in a battlefield as well as if there is a need to regulate the lethal autonomous weapons even if they do not even exist.
There are widely different interpretations of if the lethal autonomous weapons can be compatible with the international humanitarian law, but those arguments speaking against can be found to be more salient. Legal certainty regarding who’s is going to be responsible for the breach against the international law is unclear, mainly due to the subjective requisition of the mental element. Therefore, there is a need for a regulation on the lethal autonomous weapons. (Less)
