Abstract
The aim of the study was to develop a new test instrument for measuring family mood as well as to investigate the relationship between family mood and individual mood with a focus on depressive symptoms and possible gender differences, which were measured by the Family Mood Assessment and CES-D test tools. The material evaluated was obtained from 168 students from the School of Social Work and from the Department of Psychology, Lund University. The method consisted of a quantitative cross-sectional study with statistical analyzes of the collected material. In the initial factor analysis of the test instrument Family Mood Assessment, it was found that the two strongest factors were trust and emotions, and together with previous research it... (More)

In the initial factor analysis of the test instrument Family Mood Assessment, it was found that the two strongest factors were trust and emotions, and together with previous research it seems most pertinent to take these into consideration when describing family mood. The result further showed that there was no significant difference between genders in how they reported family mood, whether with trust or with emotions, while men reported significantly less depressive symptoms than women. The results showed that both women and men reported a significant difference and a large correlation between trust and emotions in the family. A significant difference was reported between trust and depressive symptoms and between emotions and depressive symptoms. For the women this correlation was small while the men reported a large correlation between trust and depressive symptoms but a small correlation between emotions and depressive symptoms. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
