(2018) PPTR06 20181Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- Abstract
- The study investigated couples who attended their first visits at Family Counseling Centers, their adult attachment patterns, avoidance coping style, and whether there was an association between adult attachment patterns and avoidance coping style. Sixty-nine individuals participated in the study and completed a survey that consisted of the Experiences in Close Relationships Revised (ECR-R) Measurement Tool, which measures adult attachment, and the Young-Rygh Avoidance Inventory (YRAI) which measures the degree of avoidance coping style. During four weeks, questionnaires were collected from 69 individuals from different Family Counseling Centers in the south west coast region, the southwest, the south-east and central Sweden. The results... (More)

The results showed that among the individuals who sought family counseling, there was an overrepresentation of individuals with fearful-reluctant attachment and that more than half of the individuals used a high degree of avoiding coping style. The study found a weak significant connection between low attachment related anxiety and low degree of avoidant coping style. It proved no significant relationship between adult attachment and degree of avoidance coping style. However, the results show a tendency among those with fearful-reluctant attachment to use a high degree of avoidance coping style, but more research on the phenomenon is needed to draw firm conclusions.
