Abstract
Gender and its relation to sex and sexuality are subjects discussed exhaustively within the field of Gender Studies. In this essay, I take on describing experiences of penetrative/enclosing sex for women within a frame of pleasure, masturbation, power and gendered stereotypes. I also discovered an acknowledgement in all my subjects interviewed, of being critical of one’s own sexuality and sexual practice. I recognize this as a response to current feminist debates in Sweden; of women’s rights to their own sexuality and bodies. By the use of Judith Butlers take on performativity, William Simon and John Gagnons Sexual Script Theory and the discussions presented by my respondents, I present a take on the availability of sexual scripts and sexual relationships for young women in Sweden. The part that penetrative/enclosing sex still plays in the sexual repertoire of these young women; as something always expected but not always pleasurable is discussed throughout the essay, as something that must change in order to ensure sexual equality among the sexes; to allow sexual pleasure on equal terms.
