Abstract
The aim of this bachelor’s degree essay is to investigate and analyse Søren Kierkegaard as a theologian. Out of the traditional conception of Kierkegaard’s philosophy about the autonomous, free, capable and free to develop oneself, I ask the question – in what purpose do God need to incarnate in order to save humanity? To this question I ask three additional subqueries: according to Kierkegaard in what purpose is God incarnated, what role does the incarnation play in salvation and what is the relationship between God, human and salvation. The study is focused on the Kierkegaard’s two works Philosophical fragments and Practice in Christianity. These works are investigated through a combination of Phenomenological content analysis and... (More)

These works are investigated through a combination of Phenomenological content analysis and analysing reasoning with other interpreters of Kierkegaard to reinforce as well as diverge my own interpretation. The essay is divided in three main parts, a presentation of Philosophical fragments, followed by a presentation of Practice in Christianity and the third part unites some common themes in the two books.

In conclusion the result of this investigation in short, is that the human being in Kierkegaard’s theology becomes a free and autonomous subject that is able to develop oneself by means of salvation. This is what grants the human being its freedom, personal insight and self-consciousness. This is preferably done by following Christ as a role model in one’s life. To this the incarnation works as a communication line between the divine and the worldly, to communicate love, understanding and insight in the other as well as oneself. (Less)
