Abstract
This paper analyses the employment rate in various municipalities on both the Swedish and Danish side of the Oresund strait and how the Oresundsbron bridge has differently affected them following its construction in the year 2000. Data from the collaborated statistics database Orestat is analysed using the difference-in-difference method. The theories used to form our hypothesis are Paul Krugmans new economic geography and core-periphery model, Cheshire & Mills agglomeration and public infrastructure, Verner J. Hendersons reorganization or growth and a study on how people's willingness to commute decreases with length of travel. Our hypothesis is that the employment rate should have increased relatively more in the municipalities... (More)

Our hypothesis is that the employment rate should have increased relatively more in the municipalities logistically located near the bridge. There is strong support for this hypothesis, although it is not confirmed and the results differed significantly between Denmark and Sweden. The results show that distance to the infrastructure affects the employment rate, and that some reorganisation of economic activity did occur from the Danish to the Swedish side. (Less)
