- This study used qualitative content analysis to explore how social workers work situation is described in the magazine Socionomen between the years of 2014-2017. The purpose of this study was therefore to explore the causes, consequences and solutions presented within the magazine to understand social workers work situation within Sweden. - This study used qualitative content analysis to explore how social workers work situation is described in the magazine Socionomen between the years of 2014-2017. The purpose of this study was therefore to explore the causes, consequences and solutions presented within the magazine to understand social workers work situation within Sweden. The study also aimed to examine which categories of social workers if any was overrepresented in these descriptions. Socionomen was strategically chosen because it is a social welfare magazine published by the trade union Akademikerförbundet SSR with content that is aimed towards social workers active within the workforce. The findings of the content analysis were analyzed and discussed by using psychosocial work environment theories, motivational theory and the bureaucratic theory model. The results of our study showed that social workers work environment is characterized by large workloads, a high rate of staff turnover, ill health, absence from work and high levels of stress. The groups that were often deemed to be most vulnerable to these conditions were newly graduated social workers and social workers working with children and their families. The causes of this heavily stressed work situation for social workers was often tied to broader organizational changes and the real threat of violence faced by social workers in the workplace. (Less)
