Abstract
Depression and anxiety disorders have increased throughout the youth population, comorbidity is common, which increases the need for multimodal evidence-based treatment methods. One example is the Unified Protocol (UP), which focuses on transdiagnostic mechanisms in emotional disturbances. The purpose of the study was to evaluate UP in group format for adolescents with depression and anxiety disorders at a BUP clinic in northern Sweden. Seven girls aged 15-17 years participated in group treatment. The study explored how depression and anxiety symptoms with related functional impairments reduced over time, if there were similarities in the symptoms of depression and anxiety for each participant, as well as whether parental estimation showed... The study explored how depression and anxiety symptoms with related functional impairments reduced over time, if there were similarities in the symptoms of depression and anxiety for each participant, as well as whether parental estimation showed reduced symptoms and functional impairments. The results showed significant reductions in mental depression symptoms and impairment from pre-measurement to follow-up measurement but from pre-measurement to post-measurement, the decrease was not significant for either mental depression symptoms or functional impairments. Estimation of mental anxiety symptoms and functional impairments showed no significant reduction in psychiatric symptoms over time, however, the decrease was significant over time in the case of functional impairments. It is not possible to draw any general conclusion from the results of the study due to low number of participants, but the results indicate that the method of treatment is worth developing further. Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
