Hinder för utveckling av en cirkulär ekonomi i byggbranschen - cirkulära materialflöden i byggbranschen

Camacho Sobek, Brandon and Fetahovic, Ermin (2018)
Abstract
The following thesis sets out to identify and map out the current problems that a circular economy, where waste management is the main focus, faces within the construction sector among entrepreneurs mainly in the southern parts of Sweden. As well as proposing solutions to said problems which are deemed to be applicable and have potential according to the authors. Construction waste amounts for one third of all waste which ends up in the Swedish depots. Despite the fact that these materials labeled as waste have a value and a potential to be reused or recycled. Sveriges Byggindustrier presented a guidance plan in 2017 where it is described how Sweden can reach zero net-spillage of greenhouse gases by the year of 2045. One of the different... (More)

One of the different areas that need to be improved in order to be able to achieve this goal is to streamline resource utilization, creating circular material flows. The thesis is based upon literary and empirical studies. In order to achieve the best possible empirical studies, in the form of interviews and field studies, the authors began with literature studies in order to gain knowledge in the subject. The empirical results are the foundation and thus the main focus in this thesis. The respondents that chose to partake in the empirical studies were selected based on their knowledge and participation within the subject. The problems that were identified using the empirical methods are the following: Choice of material, ensuring quality on reused and recycled materials, economical obstacles, lack of a second hand market, the bases of the Swedish workers ‘’Ackorssystem”, habits from a linear market, unclear laws and regulations, too few demands and poor conditions for sorting waste. The results from the interviews were then compared and analyzed with the results from the literature studies and revealed that many materials can be recycled or reused but instead are used to extract energy, which is the last step before ending up at depots. At the final parts of the thesis the authors suggest solutions that can provide the answer to how a circular material flows can be achieved which is the base to accomplishing a circular economy in the construction industry.
