- Abstract
- In purpose of gaining insight into subjective experiences of the self in people with schizophrenia, four people, who have or have had schizophrenia and/or have experienced recurring psychotic episodes, were interviewed. The self was defined as the minimal self which has an immediate experiential reality, and schizophrenia as a self-disorder rather than presence and prevalence of psychotic symptoms. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and the transcripts were analyzed using IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis). The analysis resulted in four categories. Many of the described experiences could be seen as expressions of self-disorders, although accounts of psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions also emerged.... (More)

Regarding differentiation between schizophrenia and psychosis the results go in line with theories of schizophrenia as a self-disorder, among other things due to schizophrenia being described as a latent condition, in contrast to psychosis, which was referred to as episodic. The sense of agency, of having influence over what one thinks, feels and does, proved to be an important factor that could mediate the quality of psychosis. In many cases the onset of schizophrenia or a psychotic episode resulted in seeing oneself and the world in a different light. (Less)

Analysen mynnade ut i fyra kategorier.

Analysen mynnade ut i fyra kategorier.
(Less)
