Abstract
This is a paper about the Science Based Targets Initiative and how the initiative creates and maintain it’s legitimacy and authority. The initiative was creates as a result of the Paris Agreement. Science Based Targets is an example of climate change governance and how companies works throw private regulations.
To answer my question ”How does the Science Based Targets Initiative creates and maintain it’s legitimacy and authority?” have I used material from the initiatives own website and analyzed the text with help from a framework that I’ve created with assistance from theories of climate change initiatives.

The result showed that Science Based Target is a voluntary initiative where companies themselves can choose whether to join or not. However, when a company is committed to the initiative there are some mandatory requirements that the company must implement to maintain its membership of the initiative. An example is the obligation to present an annual rapport of the GHG-emissions. (Less)
