Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
The thesis deals with the so-called regulation time (“reglementeringstiden)(in 1812-1918) when regulations were introduced to prevent the spread of venereal diseases. It focuses on Stockholm and how these regulations affected women during this time and highlights this from a gender perspective. It gives a brief background to Sweden and the situation of women in the 19th century. The thesis continues with a presentation of the regulations in chronological order, with an interjection to describe the brothel business in Stockholm during this time. It begins with a description of the origin of the first regulation, the 1812s circular, and its purpose and background to its introduction. It also describes to some extent the discussion about this... (More)

It begins with a description of the origin of the first regulation, the 1812s circular, and its purpose and background to its introduction. It also describes to some extent the discussion about this issue and which groups in society are involved in it.
The same process is applied to the two later rules, the 1847s regulation and the 1859s regulation, also known as prostitution regulation
(“prostitutionsregleringen”). Based on this, a discussion follows regarding the development of the regulations. Mainly it focuses on if there has been a shift from a preventive medical purpose to a moral and how women's freedom in the public space is more and more limited for each new regulation. (Less)
