Abstract
This study is a qualitative study of women who have been exposed to violence in close relationship. The articles are analyzed from two science-theoretical perspectives that are the affect theory and the normalization principle, with focus on the central concepts; shame, guil, fear, control and isolation. We analyzed the articles based on affect theory and power theory focusing on the central concepts; shame, guilt, fear, normalization, power and control. The analysis shows that most of the articles have a common pattern, where women tell about themselves and the violence at a beginning of the relationship, during the relationship and after the relationship has ended. The analysis shows that women experience feelings of shame, guilt and fear in a destructive relationship, which they present in mass media. The women present themselves also as less confident and with a negative self-image and self-esteem. While presenting the men as controlling, manipulative and disrespectful. However, the women presented themselves and the perpetrator in mass media depended on the period in the relationship that the woman told about. The consequences which the women got from the violence where both mental and physical injuries. These injuries also affected women’s lives by some being sick leave or got a secret identity. (Less)
