Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the highly sensitives persons subjective experiences in life before- and after the knowledge about the personality character. Additional questions also studied the positive and negative aspects of the highly sensitive person. The studies methodological framework is based on the qualitative content analysis. The interviews where held with seven participants who experienced themselves as highly sensitive. The result strongly revealed the four characteristics that the personality character owns. The deep processing, the tendency to be overstimulated, the capacity for the subtle and the strong empathy. The different characteristics revealed both positive and negative aspects for the participants. The... (More)

The negative aspects seemed to be for many of the participants, when they were either overwhelmed or when they used the other characteristics for too long. The result also revealed that it was important to find balance, and by that in different ways reduce the tendency to be overstimulated. The participants did this through recovery techniques, boundary settings and with an awareness of their own emotional states. It is estimated that 15-20 percent of the population is highly sensitive and therefore it is important that research is made and knowledge is spread about it. The result indicates that the highly sensitive person can contribute with qualities that doesn`t come as easily as for the non-highly sensitive, and the other way around. With a broader awareness and knowledge about the highly sensitive persons characteristics, it is more likely that the two of them can learn, understand and cooperate better. (Less)
