They argue that the Parisian elite has overlooked the interests and needs of ordinary people for far too long. Despite their great diversity and lack of formal leaders, they’ve managed to unite over a list of distinct political demands. In this essay I will analyze these demands through a series of ideal types in order to interpret the validity and coherence of the Yellow Vest-agenda. Their demands suggest dissatisfaction towards the capitalistic allocation of resources, power and work. Consequently, I’m also asking myself as to what degree the Yellow Vests may be interpreted as challengers of economic globalization and market-liberal climate-action. My research suggests that their ideological positions corresponds with a social green perspective on economic, social and ecological sustainability. (Less)
