Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Background: The rehabilitation method Early Supported Discharge (ESD) has gained in priority according to
the new Swedish stroke-care guidelines that were published year 2018. ESD implies that the same multidisciplinary team, where occupational therapists constitutes an important role, both coordinates discharge and performs the home rehabilitation. Even though there are earlier studies examining the effect and experience of ESD, there is still a lack of studies examining just how occupational therapists experience ESD.
Aim: Examine the experiences of the rehabilitation method ESD, with regards to stroke patients, for occupational therapists in Sweden who practice, or have, practised this method.

Aim: Examine the experiences of the rehabilitation method ESD, with regards to stroke patients, for occupational therapists in Sweden who practice, or have, practised this method.
Method: The study has a qualitative design. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted, which then were analyzed with a content analysis.
Result: ESD were experienced by occupational therapists to facilitate the approach of occupational therapy, the experience of the client, the therapeutic alliance and were perceived as more client-centered and positive, compared to the traditional rehabilitation methods.
Conclusion: The result contributes to a greater understanding of how occupational therapists experience ESD, with respect to the therapeutic alliance and the home environment. There is a great need for further studies on ESD to establish a greater understanding for this method. (Less)
