Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study eight municipal social workers views on reasons for religiosity among addicts and if the religious engagement has any effect on their quest for permanent sobriety and recovery. Eight municipal social workers were interviewed through the method of semi-structured interviews. The main conclusions are that the religiosity among addicts is due to deprivation, social exclusion from the society and learned religiosity through socialization according to social workers. The religious commitment is considered to have a positive impact on the addicts path to sobriety, according to previous research and the interviewed social workers in this thesis. The purpose of this thesis is to study eight municipal social workers views on reasons for religiosity among addicts and if the religious engagement has any effect on their quest for permanent sobriety and recovery. The thesis also conclude that the main reason for religiosity among addicts according to social workers is the sense of context and meaning offered by religious engagement. To be part of a social context with support from the surroundings and having a sense of meaningfulness and manageability, is described as being directly decisive for maintaining a sober living. However some social workers in this thesis consider religion and religious engagement as a possible substitute to addiction. (Less)
