Abstract
This bachelor thesis is based on
a fear of a growing consumption
behavior where short lived life
cycles of products are causing
negative affects on our attempts
of building long and healthy
relationships to products. The
work is also based on a hope of
designing products that people
are able to appreciate over long
period of time.

What is it that makes people value
and appreciate design over long time
of periods? and how do I give people
the opportunity of creating a long
lasting and respectful relationship
to a physical product? were two of
my key considerations during my
bachelor thesis.

my key considerations during my
bachelor thesis.

The relationships you build with
your belongings are in many ways
similar to the ones you make
with people. To be able to build
a long term and long appreciated
relationship, quality is of high
importance - otherwise it is likely
to end as a short romance. Per-
sonality traits are also important
such as open, kind, charming or
wild - characteristics you gladly
surround yourself with or traits
you like reflecting yourself in.

Helmi, Estrid and Irma are
made through time and material
efficient procedures with low
amount of material waste due
to the choice of technology and
production methods. The chairs
are made in a CAD program,
allowing me to use the fast and
consistent technologoy of CNC
milling. All three of them are
made out of 15 millimeter birch
plywood. Because of the design
flat packaging is made possible
and mounting can be achieved at
home with no require of screws
or tools. In addition the material
is a resource available in Sweden
yet inexpensive. (Less)
