Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Shopping online is a form of consumption rapidly growing. Although internet consumption has negative effects on the environment, it is at the same time related to collaborative consumption. Presently, the literature lacks an understanding of youths’ consumption behavior in Sweden as well as a comparison between the two types of consumption behaviors. Thus, the purpose of the present study is to compare the underlying factors contributing to youths’ consumption behavior in Sweden. Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, we investigate the influence of attitudes, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on (1) the intention to and (2) the self-reported behavioral implementation of the two types of consumption. In addition, altruistic and egoistic values were included as potential influencing factors. To this end, a survey was handed out to 72 youths in Sweden. Results demonstrated that attitude predicted the intention for both types of consumption. Furthermore, the intention to consume on the internet was predicted by subjective norms and perceived control, and egoistic values predicted more internet consumption while altruistic values predicted less. Previous research as well as implications for future research is discussed. (Less)
