Historically missionaries have succeeded well with their endeavor until now. This study will examine the role of the church in El Salvador, where associations with God are no longer necessarily referring to the traditional Catholic Church. During the last ten years new alternative churches have completely escalated with the result of 50 % of the Salvadoran population abandoning the Catholic Church.

In this study I will display a sample of the alternatives that seriously have challenged the position of the Catholic Church in El Salvador. With help from informants in the village Presidio Liberado on the Salvadoran countryside I have gained some knowledge and new perspectives on how to approach the new era. (Less)
