Can the functional income distribution explain income inequality?

Bylund, Anton LU (2020) NEKH03 20201
Department of Economics
Abstract
This thesis studies the correlation between capital share and income inequality using three different income inequality measures.
By performing a panel data regression and estimating Pearson’s r I
find that there exists a large and positive correlation between capital
share and top income shares. This correlation varies across countries
and regions. The correlation was largely positive for Anglo-Saxon
and Nordic countries whereas for Continental Europe and Africa, it
was negative.
