- Abstract
- This report describes the development of a bathtub aid, called the tub insert. The report is a part of a master thesis and primarily focuses on the concept development of this tub insert, which is based on the front-end process presented by Ulrich and Eppinger. The development is conducted at a Swedish company within medical technology.
The purpose of this report is to initiate the design process of a new bath accessory intended to be used by the most demanding patients in long term facilities. The main goal of this project is to develop a concept of an affordable tub insert for a variety of different bathtubs and patients with different level of mobility. The purpose of this report is to initiate the design process of a new bath accessory intended to be used by the most demanding patients in long term facilities. The product development process includes an initial research about the company and their products, concept generation, concept selection and concept evaluation. The final result is presented as computer models and physical prototypes.
This development process resulted in a concept of the tub insert that most likely fulfills all the target specifications. On some criteria’s, there are however uncertainties such as the final weight and cost. This because only parts of the completed product have been developed.
The conclusion of the report is that both the main goals are as well as most of the target specifications are achieved. There is however much work left before a complete product can be launched. (Less)
