I use a theoretical framework that connects intersectional and queer perspectives to analyze the women´s shelters movement, which allows for a more complex understanding of violence. I find that the binary approach to sex is central to understanding violence, and that factors like geographical location, financial situation and cis-heteronormative understandings plays a key part in how the continued inclusion of LGBTQ people can proceed within the movement.
