The results show that single parents of children with autism experience a lot of mental and physical stress in their everyday life. A permanent time aspect of the parent‘s stress situation was also emphasized. Further, the findings show that the support that is offered to parents is primarily focused on enhancing the parent’s ability to care for their child. Qualified parental support interventions are available, however, these are significantly less accessible, than other forms of support offered to parents of children with autism, as information given to the parents is lacking. Hence changes to increase the focus on parental wellbeing amongst single parents with autism are needed. (Less)
