- Abstract (Swedish)
Denna... (More)

(Less)

- There has been a decline in the independent mobility of children over the last decades. Parents are more worried about the safety and security of their children and the number of parents driving their children to school has increased. The independent mobility of children is important for their development both physically and mentally. Children has special needs concerning the traffic environment if they are to use it independently. They are unable to handle traffic situations in a rational manner and have a little understanding of consequences. In this work six areas in the vicinity of schools in the municipalities of Lund and Malmö were studied to determined how well they suited the needs of children and how much traffic they generated.... In this work six areas in the vicinity of schools in the municipalities of Lund and Malmö were studied to determined how well they suited the needs of children and how much traffic they generated. Different criteria of what a child friendly area is was based on documents from the municipalities and previous studies. This study found that the areas near the schools did not meet many of the criteria and could be seen as unsafe and/or unsecure for children to use independently. This even though the municipalities clamed to prioritise the children and have their best interest at hart. (Less)
