(Less)
Abstract
Background: threat, violence and assault offences against children under the age of 18 has become an occurring issue in the swedish society with increases of report of concerns. Healthcare workers are obliged to Socialtjänsten to write a report of concern if there’s a suspicion a child is abused. Paramedic nurses must be able to identify and act if there’s a suspicion that a child and/or children are suffering. Therefore it's utterly important to inform the caregiver that a report of concern will be issued and inform why it is being written. Purpose: to illustrate paramedic nurses' experiences of providing information to caregivers that a report of concern will be assembled. Method: the study was conducted in the autumn of 2020. Four... Purpose: to illustrate paramedic nurses' experiences of providing information to caregivers that a report of concern will be assembled. Method: the study was conducted in the autumn of 2020. Four paramedic stations in Skåne were included in the study. Thirteen paramedic nurses were interviewed through semi-structured interviews. The analysis has been carried out with content analysis. The analysis resulted in two categories and five subcategories that corresponded to the purpose of the study. Result: the first category was "Decisions evoke strong emotions" with subcategories "Feeling fear in threatening situations" and "Feeling powerless". The second category was worked out as "Dealing with a difficult task" with subcategories "Taking responsibility", "Being straight and honest" and “Limited education”. The result showed both the report of concern and giving the information created strong feelings within the paramedic nurses and they experienced it as a difficult task. Conclusion: the paramedic nurses experience strong emotions when associated with the caregivers when the report of concern is made. The report of concern is made to help the family. Through professional care, help and support can be given to families. The paramedic nurses describe by being straightforward and honest with the caregivers, the situation can be facilitated when the information is given. (Less)
