This has led us to a polarized society and a populist moment, where the current politicians don't listen to the voters' concerns but to their own interests. Mouffe is optimistic about this populist moment and argues about using populist strategies to overcome the neoliberal framework and the threat from right wing populists. We should allow contradictions of opinion to tame the polarization from exploding into a populist takeover. This could be done with increased pluralism, changing antagonisms to agnostics and by constructing a left thinking people. (Less)
