The study is a qualitative one, based on the experiences of seven social workers. The data has been collected from interviews with the respondents, who are active within different departments of social services. They all have in common that they are working with children and adolescents involved with criminality. The study's result shows that social services work in different ways to decrease criminality among children/adolescents. One of the methods they apply is cooperation between themselves and other institutions, such as law enforcements, schools and mental health care. It is also evident that social services have several different tools at their disposal, in order to give the child/adolescent adequat help. Furthermore, our result shows that the respondents are restricted by the law and guidelines, but that they still experience their field of discretion wide enough to get the job done. Areas for improvement that are evident is an improved cooperation with other institutions, as well as a need for new methods in order to target crimes committed over the internet. (Less)
