The studies on female representation in the political sphere have for a long time been at the center of understanding how the feminization of politics can contribute to many different areas in politics. Sweden as a country are seen as one of the most equal states in the world, and has been pioneers in implementing feminist politics into different areas of politics. Through this case study, this paper aims to discuss and examine if and how gender is an effective factor on politics, or if politicians and/or parties ideology is more regulating in the discourse on refugee reception. By examining and coding motions to the Swedish Riksdag, the study has found that out of the motions that were presented to the Riksdag during one year, many of the motions that were written by women tended to be more progressive in their attitude towards immigrants and refugee reception. With the help of theories on female representation and the gender gap in tolerance of immigrants this will be explained and discussed. (Less)
