- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to investigate if the lack of information and school polices were reasons that teachers in Malmö municipality felt uncertainty when filing a report of maltreatment. A quantitative study has been conducted by collecting data using a digital questionnaire. 35 teachers in Malmö municipality, out of a population of 3040 answered the questionnaire. The teacher’s answers were analyzed using a statistical analysis model. The aim of the study was broken down into three hypotheses that were based on Lipskys theory of street level bureaucrats.

The hypotheses looked at the covariation between the uncertainty when filing a report to social services and information before a report is made, the school policies regarding mandatory reporting and information/feedback from social service after a report is made. The results in my study are not generalizeble for the whole population of Malmö teachers because the response rate was too small. Therefore the result only give an indication of what the teachers might experience relating to information and policies regarding mandatory reporting The result in the study indicates that teachers in Malmö need more information before, during and after a report is made. Better cooperation with the Social services could also increase teachers’ confidence on when to make a report. Also better school policies regarding mandatory reporting could further increase the probability for teachers to report a suspicion. (Less)
