Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to reach a greater understanding of how psychotherapists, working with Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), experience their psychotherapeutic method compared to usual CBT and how working with CFT affects their experiences of stress, professionally as well as in private life. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight therapists working with CFT in different ways. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data and seven themes were identified: Filling in gaps – the missing piece; Theoretical width – strength or weakness?; Common Humanity – we are all in the same boat; Self-care – what do I need now?; Setting limits – good enough; Change of attitude towards others – enjoying being kind; Integration –... Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight therapists working with CFT in different ways. The results indicated that therapists experience several benefits working with CFT compared to usual CBT. Another finding was that therapists have integrated their therapeutic method in their everyday lives, which in turn was seen as a preventive factor against stress. The results are consistent with studies that have been able to demonstrate the correlation between self-compassion and resilience against stress related symptoms. (Less)
