Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how psychotherapists view and how they create alliances with children who are of the age group 6-12 years old, and with their legal guardians. The chosen method was that of a qualitative thematic analysis, using semi-structured interviews with six different psychotherapists from two different parts of Sweden. The psychotherapists were all employed at either BUP or Första Linjen. The findings of the study show that the psychotherapists need to have an alliance both with the child as well as with their legal guardians in order for the therapy to work. Another important find was how central the psychotherapist's role was in order to bring about change for the children and their families. Another... (More)

Another important find was how central the psychotherapist's role was in order to bring about change for the children and their families. Another emphasized area of the results is how the abilities of the psychotherapists play an important role in making the child feel safe and listened to and thereby gaining an alliance. Also, the use of child centered play materials was one important and often used way in communicating with the child on his or her level. Another aspect of the study was how the majority of the interviewed psychotherapists believe in the importance of self-recuperation in order to manage to do a good job in building and maintaining the alliance as well as having an inner ongoing dialog with oneself in order to acknowledge if there is a rupture in the alliance during the therapeutic process.
