Abstract
This study analyzes the relationship between economic growth and health. Furthermore, the study analyzes if there are regional differences in the relationship as well as if there are differences between advanced and non-advanced economies. The purpose of this study is to investigate if it is profitable for the economy to increase the health level. There have been studies
on the relationship between economic growth and health for decades but there is still room for further research since health is a difficult topic to measure. One subtopic of health that is becoming more common to study is the effect of mental health. Therefore, this study includes both health variables for physical and mental health.
The health variables included are health expenditures, life expectancy, mortality from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes or chronic
respiratory disease (later on called mortality from diseases), suicide mortality rate and overweight.

The study runs three regressions with panel data from 133 countries over the time period 2000-2019. The health variables which have a significant impact on economic growth in a global perspective are life expectancy, mortality from diseases and overweight. The results also show that there is a significant difference between different regions in terms of which health variables affect economic growth. A significant difference between advanced and non-advanced economies are also shown. The study emphasizes the importance of investing knowledge as well as money in increasing the health level. (Less)
