Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Malmö University Niagara began to be built 2009 and inaugurated in 2015. In 2009 a competition in architecture where the competitors should present a design of the building. The winner of the competition was the design company Lundagaard & Tranberg who created a building with three bodies with a big, open atrium in the middle. Since 2015 Niagara has been used mostly for education and office work. This report analyzes the buildings existing fire protection where injuries to people during a fire is the main focus. The report will not consider the perspectives of social or economic aspects.

The report will not consider the perspectives of social or economic aspects.
The analysis presents threshold values in terms of maximum temperature and radiation and also minimal vision. If a value exceeds the crucial value, the environment is considered critical. The values are produced to decide whether the evacuation is safe or not. The identifiable risks are represented by three produced scenarios. The scenarios are illustrated by simulations in Pathfinder and FDS were FDS simulates the fire’s physical characteristics and Pathfinder the evacuation of people. The results show that people will happened to be in a critical environment in two of the three scenarios. Only the vision is critical in both cases.
A qualitative interpretation of the results implies that people are able to evacuate safely even though the result itself states that the evacuation is unsafe. The critical value of the vision can be assumed to be meaningless for people in situations like queues because a person in a queue has people a short distance in front itself. The report states that the stairwells protection against fire and smoke is a vital part of the total fire protection of the building. Therefore, the functions that maintain the environmental differences between the stairwell and the outside should go through inspections continuously. (Less)
