(2021) SOPA63 20211School of Social Work
- Abstract
- The aim of this study has been to analyze how children to elderly parents (70+) perceive their role under the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. We were interested in how the children's relationships to their elderly parents were affected by the pandemic. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with thirteen persons. We have come to the conclusion that Covid-19 changed the norms in both society and for individuals. Children had taken new roles under the pandemic and we could see that three specific roles emerged under the interviews, according to the following themes: The role as worried and responsible parent, the role as listening and patient therapist and the role as frustrated and ineffectual relative.
