Litar studenter på socialtjänsten? En kvantitativ studie om samband mellan institutionell tillit och uppväxtland

Socialtjänsten är en väsentlig del av det svenska välfärdssystemet som kräver tillit från sina medborgare för att kunna fungera. Syftet med den här uppsatsen var att ta reda på om studenter har hög eller låg tillit till socialtjänsten samt om tilliten påverkas av studentens uppväxtland. Rothsteins teori om socialt kapital användes för att förklara betydelsen av institutionell tillit och för att belysa de tre essentiella komponenterna som avgör en persons institutionella tillit: likabehandling, saklighet och objektivitet. En kvantitativ metod, i form av en enkät, användes och enkäten skickades ut till 896 studenter vid Lunds universitet. Totalt svarade 89 respondenter. En kvantitativ metod, i form av en enkät, användes och enkäten skickades ut till 896 studenter vid Lunds universitet. Totalt svarade 89 respondenter. Resultatet indikerade att det var lika många studenter som hade låg tillit som de som hade hög tillit. Det innebär att det inom socialtjänsten finns ett behov av att höja tilliten bland studenter för att uppnå en genomsnittligt hög tillit. Dessutom kunde inga signifikanta samband hittas mellan institutionell tillit och att ha vuxit upp utanför Norden. En anledning kan ha varit det otillräckliga antalet studenter som besvarade enkäten eller problem med teorin. Oavsett krävs ytterligare forskning med ett större stickprov av studenter för att kunna bedöma om det finns signifikanta samband eller inte. (Less)

The purpose of this thesis was to find out if students have a high or low trust in Swedish Social Services and if that trust is affected by the country the student grew up in. Rothstein's theory on social capital was used to explain the importance of institutional trust as well as the three components essential in determining a person’s institutional trust: equal treatment, objectivity and impartiality. The results indicated that there lacked a majority of a high or low trust in the Social Services, as there were as many students with low trust as there were high. That, in turn, suggests that there is a need for the Swedish Social Services to raise the institutional trust amongst students in order to achieve an average level of high trust. Furthermore, no significant correlations between institutional trust and growing up outside of the Nordic countries could be found. A reason for this could either be the insufficient number of people who answered the questionnaire, or a problem with the theory. Either way, additional research is needed to assess whether any significant correlations exist with a larger sample of students. (Less)
