Abstract
This paper is a study of how users on Instagram interact on Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. American Dirt was the book we studied for interaction between users and Oprah. A lot has happened with the digitalization since Oprah’s Book Club went from announcing the monthly book on TV to announcing it on social media. The outcome of the Book Club 2.0 has welcomed all kinds of opinions, both positive and negative. The Internet has taken the concept of opinions to another level, but where do we draw the line? And can you hold a discussion on a literary level?

This paper is a study of how users on Instagram interact on Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. American Dirt was the book we studied for interaction between users and Oprah. A lot has happened with the digitalization since Oprah’s Book Club went from announcing the monthly book on TV to announcing it on social media. The outcome of the Book Club 2.0 has welcomed all kinds of opinions, both positive and negative. The Internet has taken the concept of opinions to another level, but where do we draw the line? Oprah Winfrey, a woman with a highly position of power has a big influence. Most of her books she chooses for the monthly book becomes a New York Times bestseller. Oprah, a celebrity but also a human that connects with her followers and inspires them. The users create as we call a parasocial relationship with Oprah. Throughout the paper we have studied the changes on the users' comments they posted on the monthly book American Dirt and how much impact Oprah has. There were 10 posts and 2324 comments in total on Instagram we analyzed. We did a quantitative method but also a qualitative method where we chose three out of ten posts we analyzed more. (Less)
