- This project documentation presents an overview of the
design process of the master thesis of Elisabeth Langer and
Lisa Laugs at Lund University, School of Industrial Design.
The topic of the master thesis was rainwater harvesting,
which was first explored through extensive research and
analysis. This topic is highly relevant as several aspects such
as population growth, urbanisation, and climate change are
causing pressure on the resource of water. Due to more
extreme weather such as heavier rains, cloudbursts in urban
areas, and longer periods of drought, there is a necessity to
adapt the cities and increase the resilience of urban areas.

Rainwater harvesting is an effective solution which helps
prevent an overload of the sewer system while collecting
rainwater for other purposes, for which drinking water
quality is not required.
The result of this master thesis is a modular rainwater
harvesting solution, called More than Rain. It is targeted
towards tenants living in residential areas. More than Rain
is an overground dry system which collects rainwater from
the rooftop area of houses by connecting it to a downpipe.
Modularity is a key feature of the product. Much detail was
put into creating a system which is completely modular,
resulting in great flexibility for the users. This makes the
product suitable for many different types and sizes of
accommodation. Users can choose between five different
body styles, and with DIY becoming more and more popular
these days, users are invited and encouraged to get creative
and make the product truly their own. Throughout the
design process, the design principles for a circular economy
were considered, in order to create a sustainable and longlasting product. Each material was carefully selected and the product only uses pure, durable, and either fully recyclable or biodegradable materials. (Less)
