Barnahus is a collaborative initiative between the Swedish police force, public prosecutors, healthcare- and social services with the purpose of providing a physically and mentally safe service for abused children and their families, where children receive the help they are entitled to, at the same place.
Previous research illustrates that social workers acting within multidisciplinary teams frequently experience low authoritative power in comparison to high legitimacy colleagues such as public prosecutors and police. The aim of the study is to examine how the social worker influence and impact in the collaboration at Barnahus. Therefore, the aim of the study is to gain insight into which roles, legitimacy and influence the collaborating professionals hold within Barnahus, and examine how the social worker influence this multi-disciplinary setting. Themes highlighted in this study outline diverse opinions regarding the level of influence the social worker has in the multi-disciplinary setting. Particularly, voices from interviewed professions highlight that the social worker role uniquely requires more encouragement than their multidisciplinary colleagues to maintain their legitimacy in the collaborative experience.
