- Abstract (Swedish)
- Amphibians are globally among the most endangered taxonomic groups of vertebrates.
This is partly due to the chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), which causes the disease chytridiomycosis, that have led to eradication of more than 90 species of amphibians worldwide. The spadefoot toad (Pelobates fuscus) is one of the Swedish red listed species (VU) that are at risk of being affected by Bd. The species is currently in the National Action Program for Endangered Species which is a step along the way to achieving the Environmental Quality Objectives. Therefore, the purpose of this field study was to investigate possible reasons which was accomplished by performing an inventory of spadefoot toads as well as examining environmental factors in terms of pH and conductivity in Frihult, Scania County. It turned out to be a significant decline of spadefoot toad from 2010 to 2020 while other anurans in the area have been increasing. Meanwhile, there was no change in either pH or conductivity. After taking multiple aspects into consideration, including previously performed eDNA analyses, is it consequently reasonable to assume that chytridiomycosis has had an impact regarding the decline. - Chytridiomykos - groddjurens pandemi
(More) - Chytridiomykos - groddjurens pandemi
