Mellanmänsklig tillit i osäkra tider - en kvantitativ studie om hur ekonomisk och politisk osäkerhet påverkar mellanmänsklig tillit

- Abstract
- By examining previous research this paper develops three hypotheses to understand how political and economic uncertainty can affect interpersonal trust: (1) a negative linear covariation, (2) a positive linear covariation and (3) a curve linear covariation. Using the World Uncertainty Index as an operationalization for uncertainty and World Value Survey for interpersonal trust a regression model with panel data is created. Furthermore, methodological challenges such as unbalanced panel data, type of regression and control variables, are discussed and controlled for. It results in a positive significant linear covariation which gives support to hypothesis 2. This is connected to previous research where uncertainty during natural disasters... (More)

This is connected to previous research where uncertainty during natural disasters increased incitements for cooperation and trust. In the regression OECD-countries are added as a dummy variable to investigate if the data is unbalanced due to economic development - which it seems not to be. The gini coefficient is added as a control variable due to previous research. Finally, the positive linear correlation is existent when adding OECD and the gini coefficient, indicating that uncertainty can have a positive effect on interpersonal trust, but the explained variance is low and further research is needed to establish causality.
