Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
Abstract
The study aims to examine employees’ perceptions of internal crisis communication. The case study examines the Swedish Armed Forces during the first two months of the war in Ukraine. As previous research has focused on the external perspective of the Armed Forces’ communication, this study intends to fill the identified gap regarding the internal perspective. Through qualitative interviews, the research questions are answered, which include the employees’ perceptions of communication and its consequences for sensemaking and ambassadorship. The study has a social constructionist perspective and examines subjective perceptions through a qualitative content analysis. The theoretical framework consists of theories regarding internal crisis... (More)
The study aims to examine employees’ perceptions of internal crisis communication. The theoretical framework consists of theories regarding internal crisis communication, military strategic communication, and sensemaking. The results show a combination of an information-oriented and a meaning-oriented perspective of communication. Furthermore, employees’ perceptions differ depending on the form of employment. The results indicate that full-time employees and those in training receive more information, have a greater opportunity for dialogue, and are generally more satisfied with the communication, compared to part-time employees. A conclusion is drawn that employees who are full-time employees or in training ‘live the organization’ to a greater extent, as they are on site and constantly receive messages that facilitate the flow of communication, sensemaking, and ambassadorship.
