- Abstract
- When we refer to the countryside, we associate it with the city. In the path of urbanization, the countryside developed in the direction of eventually becoming a city. In 2017, China began to implement the rural revitalization policy to avoid the erasure of the characteristics of the Chinese countryside. The rural revitalization policy involves many aspects, such as politics, economy, and culture, and generally guides the development of the countryside. As architects, we find that the most crucial feature of the policy is the emphasis on two parts. There are the development of the native history and culture and the construction of tourism.

The rural revitalization policy involves many aspects, such as politics, economy, and culture, and generally guides the development of the countryside. The narrative structure starts from the relationship between the countryside and the city to the policy interpretation of rural revitalization. The common problems faced by Chinese villages are identified, and villages with unique characteristics are sought for practical design.
The project site locates in Shiyou Village, Nanfeng County, Jiangxi Province, China. The village’s Nuo culture and honey orange industry can lay the foundation for tourism development in the area. Its unique hollowed-out architectural layout also allows us to intervene as architects with something to offer.
The overall scale of the design results is large, and the groups involved are complex. Therefore, we present the results in two main parts. The first part presents the overall design and illustrates the 4-step blueprint for the development of Shiyou Village. The second part looks at the Nuo culture museum renovation in the first step and presents the zoom-in design. (Less)
