Through a qualitative content analysis, I searched for themes in the material that could be associated with theories that was relevant in feminist research. The analysis showed that Disney had taken on board previous criticisms of how they portray the female role and different ethnic communities, but there was still a narrative deeply
rooted in heterosexuality as norm and a creation of the other towards the characters who do not follow the norm and also malicious portrayal. In conclusion, I could state that the themes in the two films were designed to be identifiable from a Western heteronormative context, but that Disney now makes more identifiable and multifaceted representations in its productions. In the conclusion, I am also critical of parts of Margareta Rönnberg's research on Disney, which has a Western perspective as its central starting point. (Less)
