(More) - Abstrakt

(Less) - Popular Abstract

Methods: Integrative literature study was the chosen method of this study. A total of eleven articles were included which made up the result. The results of the study formed three main themes, experienced traumatic rare events, psychological effects and demographic and geographical differences linked to traumatic rare events.
Results: The majority had been exposed to at least one rare traumatic event. Common psychological effects were PTSD, anxiety and sleep problems. There were geographic and demographic differences linked to traumatic rare events, but despite this, the majority felt that they were strengthened by their ambulance profession.
Conclusion: Paramedics are at high risk of developing mental illness. (Less)
