- This paper examines the emergence of gender-neutral clothing, particularly during the period of 2015-2016 when there was a notable increase in interest surrounding the concepts of gender-neutrality and androgyny in fashion. The objective of this paper is to contribute new research to the field, as there is a lack of specific studies on gender-neutral clothing. To achieve this, the paper conducts interviews with designers of gender-neutral clothing and analyses the materials they created during the aforementioned time frame. By employing thematic analysis and establishing a theoretical framework grounded in queer theory, performativity, and anti-fashion, the paper seeks to comprehend how gender-neutral clothing both incorporates and avoids gender in its design and presentation. The findings reveal that the creation of gender-neutral clothing is strongly influenced not only by previous research on queer clothing but also by the clothing's presentation, highlighting that the intended purpose and context of gender-neutral clothing production play significant roles in
shaping the outcomes. (Less)
