Abstract
This thesis proposes a collaborative, actor-centred social design
approach to addressing the societal problem of involuntary loneliness
(Swedish Government, 2023a). The strategy focuses on creating inclusive
environments, enhancing social interactions, and promoting the formation
of communities through the use of technology and the establishment
of third places. The proposed design, named The Culinary Commons,
is a conceptual vision of a unique culinary destination that provides
residents and visitors with an immersive and educational food experience.

This thesis proposes a collaborative, actor-centred social design

(Swedish Government, 2023a). The strategy focuses on creating inclusive

is a conceptual vision of a unique culinary destination that provides
residents and visitors with an immersive and educational food experience.
The design highlights futuristic augmented reality technology, which
enhances the overall culinary experience. The business model benefits
both the municipality and the food-related businesses that use the space,
generating revenue through sponsorships, the rental of the space, and
the commission from the sales of the food-related businesses. The
revenue is reinvested in the Commons, allowing for continuous upgrades
to equipment and technology, ensuring that it remains a leading culinary
destination.

The research methods followed a double-shaped diamond template,
which provides a clear and structured approach to the research process,
ensuring that each stage is well planned and executed. The use of
interviews with relevant actors, the service blueprint, literature and
market research, a workshop, information architecture, and the social
design process helped me structure and generate ideas throughout the
process. The continuous refinement of the brief throughout the process
ensures that the research remains focused and relevant, allowing for the
development of ideas and solutions that are well-suited to addressing the
problem at hand. (Less)
