Abstract
This thesis has the title Open your door? The purpose of this study is to learn about museum professionals’ opinions and thoughts surrounding publicly accessible storage solutions. The research questions for this study are:

• How do the museum professionals reflect over their attitudes and thoughts to publicly accessible storage in the interviews?
• What are the underlying factors for regional museums to have chosen or not chosen to have public access to the museum collection and/or storage?

The conclusion of my study is that accessibility is an important issue for the museum professionals that I have interviewed. Many of the interview participants all agree on that a publicly accessible storage solution is not the right method.... (More)
This thesis has the title Open your door? The purpose of this study is to learn about museum professionals’ opinions and thoughts surrounding publicly accessible storage solutions. The research questions for this study are:

• How do the museum professionals reflect over their attitudes and thoughts to publicly accessible storage in the interviews?
• What are the underlying factors for regional museums to have chosen or not chosen to have public access to the museum collection and/or storage?

The conclusion of my study is that accessibility is an important issue for the museum professionals that I have interviewed. Many of the interview participants all agree on that a publicly accessible storage solution is not the right method. However, all interview participants can see the positive aspects about inviting the public into to the world behind the scenes at museums. If visitors were to be allowed inside the storage, they should experience the museum as non-curated. There are also different opinions regarding if open storage solutions would jeopardise the collections or if it would become a tool for creating accessibility and creating knowledge.
There are different reasons for not opening a publicly accessible storage. According to the majority of the interview participants mostly because of the organisational structure, resources, of the museum, but also that it goes against the museum mission to preserve the collections for the future.
