- Healthcare professionals frequently request competence development regarding the implications of Parkinson’s disease for those who are affected and their special needs. New employees at nursing homes are often taught by experienced healthcare staff, but there is no disease-specific-education. - Healthcare professionals frequently request competence development regarding the implications of Parkinson’s disease for those who are affected and their special needs. New employees at nursing homes are often taught by experienced healthcare staff, but there is no disease-specific-education. Consequently, there is no system that ensures a standardized level of competence within and between healthcare units. High workload and focus required for healthcare professionals during working hours, result in limited time for leisure activities. A proposed solution should therefore be easily accessible, flexible and easy to use. In this bachelor’s thesis, a proposed solution is presented as an interactive prototype game, designed to increase competence in Parkinson's disease for healthcare professionals in an enjoyable and motivating way. Based on Donald Norman’s basic design principles, a digital educational game is constructed. The educational content is based on a literature study of the disease and several interviews with clinical background and strategies for knowledge learning. The final prototype game includes four chapters with accompanying quizzes and a motivational competitive moment. The evaluation of the prototype with several healthcare professionals as well as the Operation manager for home care and health in Lund, shows that the proposed solution is suitable and relevant for the intended users. The proposed game can therefore be seen as a starting point for a standardized competence level in Parkinson’s disease within healthcare units, that require further development for implementation in healthcare.
